Curvy Girls on Kickstarter

Curvy Girls are a body-positive line of fashion dolls that just launched on Kickstarter. The line consists of four dolls: Alex, Aliah, Keiko, and Quinn. These ladies are inclusive in both backgrounds and body types.

Curvy Girls pick up the gauntlet first thrown down by Lammily and Curvy Barbie for body-positive fashion dolls. Critics of Curvy Barbie feel that she does not go far enough in portraying a realistic body type. Curvy Girls rectify that situation.

Here are the full specs for Curvy Girls:

  • 11 inches tall (while flat-footed. Doll goes up to the same height as Barbie when wearing heels)
  • 1:6 scale (so yes, they can share the dream house!)
  • Plus size proportions (U.S. Size 18/20)
  • Plastic body, vinyl head, rooted Saran hair, fully removable and interchangeable clothing & accessories.
  • Fully articulated body meaning she will have joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. And full head movement.

Promo photos show the prototype of Quinn.

The Kickstarter campaign runs until July 5. You can pledge for the Curvy Girl of your choice, available in three options: Customizable (nude, unpainted), Basic (dressed doll) or Premium (dressed doll plus an extra outfit). If the initial goal is met, additional add-ons and stretch goals (such as fashion packs) will be introduced. I pledged for one Premium doll, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for fashion packs..

I hope the Curvy Girls launch is successful. If you are interested in the Curvy Girls dolls, you can click on the link to pledge: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/curvygirls/curvy-girls-dolls-plus-size-fashion-dolls.
