In honor of Valentine’s Day this week, I’m reviewing the C.A. Cupid doll from Ever After High. C.A. Cupid is the new student at Ever After High. She transferred there from Monster High, and in the process, underwent a complete makeover. I don’t own the Monster High version of her, but here’s an official publicity photo from Mattel:
As you can see, the Ever After High Cupid is a kinder, gentler version of her former self. Because Monster High Cupid was scary! Her wings were made out of bones – BONES, PEOPLE! They looked like two ribcages with a spine in the center. And the heart-shaped lipstick made it look like she was puckering up her lips, but with the rest of the lips as white as her face, it just looked odd. Her dress was mostly white and black with just a little pink, and her limbs ended in a translucent smokey grey color. MH Cupid was very Goth. In contrast, Ever After High Cupid has a natural skin tone and a pink, healthy glow. Her hair is bright pink, highlighted with strands of a very pale pastel pink, like the colors of those tiny heart-shaped candies with the messages on them.
Her gossamer wings are a far cry from her Monster High wings. She wears a pretty pink dress, black fishnets, and golden high-heeled shoes that compliment her feathered wings, decorated with a heart. And if you look closely, you can see that the white highlights in her pupils are also shaped like hearts.
She comes with a bow and arrow, and a quiver with non-removable arrows in it, so she can spread love wherever she goes. Although Cupid is a Rebel at Ever After High, she’s friends with both Rebels and Royals. And as much as she feels it’s her calling to spread love, ironically she suffers from an unrequited crush on Prince Charming, because she’s too shy to let him know how she feels.
Today, Cupid is visiting her old haunt Monster High for the Valentine’s Day dance.
Although I don’t own the Monster High version of Cupid, I can definitely say that I like the Ever After High version better. She’s pretty, and she won’t give me nightmares. Which C.A. Cupid do you like better?
Happy Valentine’s Day from Dollsville, USA!
